tl;dr: Datakami is hiring ML Engineers near the Netherlands
Who we are
We're Datakami – a software engineering consultancy specialized in generative AI. We're a team of senior ML engineers offering remote expertise to startups across the US and Europe. We solve the unique challenges of running generative AI in production environments.
We're based in the Netherlands, but work fully remotely with clients worldwide: from ML platforms to SaaS companies.
We're looking for exceptional ML engineers to join our team and help us move the industry forward.
What you'll be doing
As an ML engineer at Datakami, you consider yourself a healthy mix between a machine learning expert, a software engineer, a researcher, and a hacker. You'll work primarily in small teams embedded in client projects, collaborating with their engineers and founders while connecting with the Datakami team across projects.
Your projects might include:
- Converting bleeding-edge open source generative AI models (released yesterday!) to production-ready code
- Building production pipelines with LLMs from scratch
- Improving existing models on speed, robustness, and task performance
- Designing custom LLM benchmarks and evaluation processes
- Building and scaling ML infrastructure for faster, more efficient deployment
- Setting up monitoring, tracing, and prompt management systems
We work across the application, data, MLOps, and infrastructure layers of the generative AI tech stack.
Who you are
Your skill set will grow constantly with each new client project, so consider applying if you are inquisitive, willing to fail often and adapt quickly. You should be comfortable with feeling out of your depth and rapidly becoming an expert in a new field.
As an engineer at Datakami, you:
- identify and quickly learn new skills and techniques needed to work in new areas
- work autonomously, organizing and clearly communicating your plans
- value high-quality and elegant software
- enjoy using principles from one area to help solve problems in another
- cultivate good relationships with clients and colleagues
- can explain and discuss complex topics to both technical and non-technical audiences
- are highly competent in Python and familiar with common dev tools (Git, CI/CD, Docker)
- understand a thing or two about LLMs and other generative AI models
A typical ML engineering candidate has experience with or is willing to learn about the following:
- Building production systems with large language models
- Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- MLOps tooling for model training, deployment, and monitoring
- LLM-specific tools for tracing, prompt management, and evaluation
- Model optimization, inference acceleration, or custom model serving
Work environment
- Cutting-edge work: You'll work with the latest generative AI models and tools, often before they're widely adopted
- Fully remote: Datakami does not have offices, so you will be working from home. We have occassional company meetups near Nijmegen, The Netherlands.
- Community: Datakami is a small company (2 principal engineers and a junior researcher) which means you'll contribute at least 25% to our company culture.
Our company is geared towards remote work, as most of our clients are based in the US. The only exception to this is that you will be invited to meet up in Nijmegen from time to time. That's why we are looking for people based within 2 hours traveling distance from Nijmegen, The Netherlands.
We value
- Communication skills: All our engineers regularly talk to clients. Writing blog posts or giving talks is a great way to share knowledge (and attract interesting clients!)
- Quality over speed: We believe in sane working hours and long-term solutions, not 70-hour work weeks with temporary workarounds
- Open source contributions: We love engineers who contribute to open source
- Responsible use of AI: Datakami's goals include promoting technologically innovative and ethically responsible practices within AI
Benefits
- The chance to work on interesting problems with amazing people
- Competitive salary
- 25 days paid time off
- Home office equipment budget
- Professional development budget for books, courses, and conferences
How to apply
More than the qualifications listed above, if you're excited to join a team that's working to have a positive impact on the generative AI industry, we encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't align perfectly with what's listed.
You must be eligible to work in the EU, and live within 2 hours traveling distance to Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Please note that we do not sponsor visas or relocation to the Netherlands.
In your application, please include:
- Your favorite generative AI model and why it's your favorite
- A story about that one time you took initiative
- Links to any open source contributions, blog posts, or talks you're proud of
Email us at: [email protected]
We encourage you to apply even if you don't believe you meet every single qualification. Research shows that people from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome, so don't exclude yourself prematurely – we'd love to hear from you if this work excites you.
